Typ 2 und Combo 2 wurden in der EU als Standardsteckverbindungen bei Ladeleistungen über 3,6 kW für Wechselstrom und über 22 kW für Gleichstrom festgelegt. In Deutschland erfolgt diese Vorgabe durch die Ladesäulenverordnung. In Konkurrenz zu CCS stehen das von japanischen Herstellern favorisierte Ladesystem CHAdeMO und das chinesische System nach GB Standard 20234.
